THE FIRST RECIPIENT OF THE ANNE KIBBE RESIDENCY PROGRAM FOR WOMEN – Nathalie Bermudez / Artist Talk at FIG

"I entered the world of painting after coming to the United States from Colombia. At that time, I felt an intense need to connect with my culture and my roots. I decided my paintings must tell the story of where I came from, where I once belonged, because the culture shock confused me completely.

So I began by telling the stories of people from my country that cannot tell their own stories. My paintings, I realized, would tell the stories of Colombia's indigenous and Afro-indigenous people, of our Afro-Colombian roots that are abandoned by the political class in Colombia." – Nathalie Bermudez

CAN Triennial highlights the galleries and studios that support the regional culture by enabling and exhibiting works of Northeast Ohio artists. It will take place in more than 15 venues, clustered in six Cleveland neighborhoods. FIG is excited to be one of the hosting venues!
Women in Print: Recent Acquisitions highlights women artists who have used printmaking as a vehicle for investigating topics as expansive as personal identity, social issues, and even the creative process itself.
